FOUR WEEK CLASS

NUMBER OF STUDENTS PER CLASS IS LIMITED!!!

HOW DOES YOUR PROCESS DIFFER FROM OTHERS?

“I’ve always found that actors have to be comfortable in whatever method or approach they take. I’ve studied at the Actors Studio and was taught as well by the late great Uta Hagen. Over 40 years as an actor and 18 years as a casting director you acquire a tremendous amount of knowledge. The bottom line with any class is, are you learning? Are you becoming a better actor?”

“In the ever changing world of film and television, and especially as a casting director, I’m finding more directors and producers are looking for an “organic” approach. Someone who is “natural” yet knows everything about their character. That’s how I designed this class. Every day we meet people and we speak with them and we’re always thinking. Whether it’s “Wow, that dude is weird looking”, or “Wow, what a unique looking person”, if you say, “May I have a ham sandwich please?” it’s going to come out two different ways. Call it the millennium approach to sub-text.”

“If you know everything there is about a character, you’ll know exactly what that character is thinking. To me, it’s never about the scene but what you’re THINKING during that scene. Watch Walken. Watch Depp, Watch Giamatti. They know everything there is to know about their characters and their thoughts dictate the writers words, not the other way around.”

BUT BREAKING DOWN A CHARACTER TAKES A LOT OF WORK

“All great characters start with the homework. I’ve designed a two page template that is used as a guideline to help each student achieve the best results for each character they portray. Each week I ask students to write 3-4 pages of their character based on that template. You wouldn’t believe the depth some have written. 10-11 pages. I’m constantly blown away by the dedication, and I’ve found it opens actors up to a whole different level of creativity.”

WHY ONLY A LIMITED NUMBER OF STUDENTS?

“I don’t like big classes. I want everyone to participate. I’ve been hired to do workshops and there were 25 students and I just couldn’t give them the attention they deserve. I like to do scenes multiple times, do exercises, help each student get the most out of the scene but more importantly, themselves. Make them feel comfortable with the decisions they make because when it comes time to auditioning, and especially adjusting in that audition, they need to be as prepared as possible.”

“I also don’t like charging a lot because actors already pay way too much for everything.  When I was a young actor, I found a nice, safe, nurturing environment that allowed me to grow at a reasonable price. Now it’s my turn to give back.”

WHAT ELSE SHOULD SOMEONE KNOW ABOUT YOUR CLASS?

“Hollywood is a business and a lot of actors don’t realize that. There are certain things you have to learn. Even as a successful casting director, I still have to hustle.  We all have to be pro-active in our careers. There are several advantages an actor has over their peers.”

“Also, as a casting director, I can show you what to do and what not to do in the casting office. Making choices, taking direction and making adjustments. I also teach a cold reading exercise that will absolutely guarantee they’ll improve their cold reads 100%.”

“The most rewarding thing for me has been since I started this class two years ago, students have been booking regularly” LINK
